Bowl and Pitcher Loop Trail Details
The Spokane River flows through Spokane, from its source at Lake Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho, down 80 miles until it reaches Lake Roosevelt. At the northwestern edge of Spokane, the river passes through the forested region of Riverside State Park.
The Bowl and Pitcher area, a popular spot for camping, picnicking, and whitewater rafting, can be found in the park. The area’s name is derived from the remarkable basaltic rock formations that are scattered throughout. These formations have taken on the shape of a pitcher in one group of boulders and a bowl lying on its side in another. Visitors can learn about the geologic history of these formations and enjoy a peaceful picnic or an overnight stay in the campground.
